#CancelColbert Hashtag Gains Popularity

A verified "The Colbert Report" twitter account tweeted yesterday: "I am willing to show the #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching Chong Ding Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever."

To many, Stephen Colbert who mocks people on a daily basis, has gone too far.

His Comedy Central show's main character played by Colbert, is described by the actor as a: "well-intentioned, poorly informed, high-status idiot". It's "Ching Chong Ding Dong" skit jokes about stereotypes inflicted on the Asian community. However, without the program's contextual timing, the tweet was not viewed as funny.

#CancelColbert gained popularity as soon as the host's tweet was posted. The racially insensitive tweet has since been removed. Twitter user Micha tweeted: "#CancelColbert Satire to make fun of racists isn't supposed to be hurtful to those who are affected by racism, or you're doing it wrong." Stephen Colbert doesn't believe the tweet was as bad as the general horrified feelings felt on the web.
