Conference highlights Greece potential as a medical tourism destination

The event was opened by the Greek president of Democracy Mr. Prokopis Pavlopoulos and followed by Prof. Helene Glykatzi-Ahrweiler, the first woman become a dean at the world renowned university of Sorbonne. Ms Glykatzi-Ahrweiler spoke about immigration.

Maria Georga, a specialist in the International health tourism market and regional manager of Intuition Communication, publishers of IMTJ and Treatment Abroad, spoke of the potential for Greece as a health tourism destination. She talked about the International environment of Health Tourism and outlined the differences in defining and measuring health tourism from country to country.

She also presented the factors governing types of treatment that patients will travel to another country to access, the importance of the European Cross Border Healthcare Directive and the possible opportunities for Greek healthcare providers.

The 11th Greek Conference of Public Health and Health Services is one of the most important national conferences under the auspices of the Ministry of Health.

The health tourism round table session lasted 2 hours and the main topics that were discussed were:Greece as a health tourism destination, The Role of the Greek Health Tourism Association – Elitour, Quality Assurance issues, Thermal Tourism.
