Burnt remains found in Saronic Gulf

A dead body was found floating in the sea in the Saronic Gulf by an amateur fisherman on Tuesday.

The fisherman alerted the authorities and a coast guard vessel was sent to collect the body. A coast guard announcement later clarified that the body belonged to a woman, not a man as earlier reported, and had been taken to the morgue for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, the Greek fire brigade has announced that another 11 bodies recovered following the deadly wildire in Mati, Attica have been identified by the police forensics service. The total number of dead bodies from the fire that authorities have successfully identified now stands at 70, while another four people have died in hospital of injuries sustained in the fire.
In addition to the above, the unidentified dead body of a drowned man was recovered by the coast guard at Kokkino Limanaki in Rafina on Monday, in addition to the body of a woman found in the Saronic Gulf on Tuesday morning. In an announcement on Sunday, the fire brigade had said that out of a total 87 dead bodies found after the fire, 59 had been identified and 28 were awaiting identification.
A further 14 people are still missing following the disaster, based on reports made their families and loved ones, but authorities note that these may be among the dead bodies that have been recovered but have yet to be positively identified.
