Forbes: Keramikos among world's coolest 'hoods

"We all know that the best way to really know a city isn’t to go to the central square or major museums, or even the most tourist-trodden neighborhoods. What’s more interesting is discovering the up-and-coming neighborhoods where local creatives are settling in and setting up shop," begins Forbes' article on the world's "coolest" neighborhoods.

The article in "Forbes", which is dedicated to the 12 most cult neighborhoods of the planet, places among them, Keramikos, as a district that one must certainly explore when visiting Athens!

Keramikos is just a ten minute walk from the historic center of Athens, a "laidback neighborhood [that] seems to live in a magical world of its own." The article goes on to say that this is the neighborhood of the Greek capital where the old and the new coexist, and "Greece’s storied past and often turbulent present, tradition and forward-looking creativity all coexist happily together."

According to the columnist, one of the most beautiful things to see in Keramikos is the weekly folk market when "the neighborhood comes alive in a riot of sights, smells and flavors…. In recent years Keramikos’s low rents and old-time feel have lured creative young Athenians to the area, where they have opened inventive restaurants, bars and cafés along with galleries and theaters.the neighborhood comes alive, with smells and flavors smelt in the air".

Nestled between Omonia square, Gazi district, and the ancient site of Keramikos, the ancient burial grouds for honored Athenians, the neighborhood offers such a dazzling array of food for thought, spirit, and stomach that will make a walking tour of the area a true traveller's experience.
