Greek Orthodox Church declares voluntary abortion murder

Featured Greek Orthodox Church declares voluntary abortion murder

The Greek Orthodox Church rejected the practice of voluntary abortion, declaring it an act of murder.

The Standing Holy Synod of the Church of Greece during two Sessions on Tuesday, clarified that aborting a fetus was an act of murder, as it was considered a complete and integral human from the moment of its conception based on the Holy Scriptures and the Traditions of the Orthodox Church.

Abortion in Greece has been fully legalized since 1986, when law 1609/1986 was passed effective from 3 July 1986. Abortions can be performed on-demand in hospitals for women whose pregnancies have not exceeded twelve weeks.
