A group of seven people in Xanthi make 3D-printed plastic masks

The idea of a private doctor in Xanthi, cardiologist Komnenos Gambras, combined with the expertise of his friend, Anestis Papachristou, a self-taught computer engineer, led to the creation of a voluntary group of seven people to make plastic masks using a 3D printer to help medical and nursing staff at the city's hospital.
With the help of state-of-the-art technology, a lot of hard work and the use of the required materials, they have already made the first 30 masks and another 100 are on the way.
"First we found an approved design for this type of mask, which was posted on a Czech health site. When this plan got the relevant approval of the Greek health ministry, we started producing masks," Gabras explained to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA).
It takes between two to six hours to 3D-print a mask, depending on the type of printer, while 20 masks require one kilo of plastic.
