The Health Ministry on Tuesday evening announced the latest daily statistics on the coronavirus pandemic, including 32 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Greece in the last 24 hours and 2 new deaths.

The Covid-19 infections total in Greece stands at 2,566, of whom 55.6 pct are men. Of these, 588 were infected abroad and 1,262 were infected in Greece.

Fatalities stand at 138 since the start of the outbreak; 36 of them were women. Their average age was 74 years old and 90.6 pct had an underlying illness and/or were 70+ years old.

Some 40 patients are being treated in Intensive Care Units and 12 of these are women, while their average age is 67 years. An 87.5 pct of ICU patients have underlying health issues or are over 70 years of age. A total of 70 people have so far been discharged from ICUs.

Some 69,833 Covid-19 diagnostic tests have been carried out in Greece since the start of the outbreak.

The numbers, usually provided at a daily briefing of Health Ministry novel coronavirus spokesman Sotiris Tsiodras and Civil Protection Deputy Minister for Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias, were issued in writing instead, due to the prime minister's televised address on rolling back some restrictions.

Commenting on the gradual lifting of restrictive measures, Hardalias urged that citizens remain "responsible, realistic" and follow all guidelines and standing measures.

He added that so far in the course of the battle "against the insidious and invisible enemy," Greek citizens are proving on a daily basis that "with discipline, patience, and especially unity, we can face any danger." The stricter the observation of rules by the public, during this stage, the easier it will be to continue revoking more of them in the future, he added.
