Basic foodstuffs record inflationary surge in Greece
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Greek consumers are faced with a wave of inflation in basic consumer goods, and must put their hand deeper in their pocket in order to obtain the essentials.
Indicative:
- Lettuce (pcs): € 1.10 (from € 0.50) + 120%
- Tomatoes (1 kg): 3 € (from 1,50 €) + 100%
- Broccoli & cauliflower (1 kg): 2 € (from 0,50 € - 1 €) + 300%
"The cost of transport is mainly a serious problem," say professionals, noting that price is determined by both supply and demand.
The rise in prices is due to other factors such as natural disasters (hail, snow, frost), the increased price of fertilizers and fuel.
