The new evaluation method for the Greek public sector employees begins right after Easter. The Ministry of Reforms, issued a circular, according to which, the evaluation will begin on Monday April 28 with the aim to be completed by the end of June.

The bill concerning the evaluation of civil servants is one of Greece’s obligations under the memorandum rules and will be tougher on employees, potentially opening the way for layoffs.

Any civil servant with a low score on the evaluation test will be in danger of labor mobility or even exit from the public sector in general. Those close to the average, will be put into special training courses or even they will be transferred to other departments, where they will be able to perform better.

From now on, evaluators will not only judge the performance and achievements of each employee according to his typical qualifications, such as education, skill etc, but they will also take into account the possibility they have of excelling in their work environment. Essentially through these new regulations there will be specific quotas for the respective rating scales (from 1 to 10) where employees will be categorized according to their evaluation.

Added to that there will be a certain percentage of employees that can receive each grade. For instance, 25% of employees will be able to receive 9 and 10 on the rating scale, 60% will be able to receive a grade of 7 or 8, and 15% of employees will will be rated between 1 and 6 grades.
