Cypriot President Anastasiades Briefs Prime Minister Samaras, Athens

In yesterday's meeting in Athens, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades declared that current discussions by the Southern and Northern territories of Cyprus have not substantially advanced.

Anastasiades held meetings with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and informed him on the discussion's major challenges. According to reports, the main elements of disputes involve confidence-building efforts, Turkish dwellers, guarantees, and EU rights and obligations.

Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides and Greek Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos also participated in the discussions. Samaras stated after the discussions: "Talks will continue but will only lead to a settlement if the other side displays genuine political will," as reported by Kathimerini.

The Prime Minister added, "Greece and Cyprus will continue our peaceful struggle to overturn the fait accompli of the Turkish occupation." Today Cypriot President Anastasiades is scheduled to meet with Greek opposition party leaders in the capital.
