Greek Supreme Court Plans Manolada Verdict Review

The Greek Supreme Court plans to reexamine the Patras court ruling, that acquitted two men of last year's shootout and attack of 28 migrant workers at a Manolada strawberry farm, according to reports.

Last week, Supreme Court prosecutor Efterpi Koutzamani requested a copy of the verdict concerning the farm owner and foreman, right after it was published. The prosecutor has the authority to overturn the decision and conduct another trial, if it was not orchestrated appropriately.

Their acquittal faced major opposition by PASOK, SYRIZA and the Democratic Left. PASOK's Constantinos Triantafyllos stated that there was "a feeling that justice was not done", while SYRIZA delegate Nikos Voutsis described the decision as "shameful", as reported by Kathimerini.

On the flip side, former Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis agreed with the Patra court's decision. He stated, "You prefer to interpret the outcome of the trial as a conspiracy between judges and the jury rather than respect the unanimous verdict".
