Council of State Declares University Wage Cuts As Legal

The Greek Council of State has declared that wage cuts placed on professors in recent years are within the law, according to reports.

The government recently reversed cutbacks that were imposed on judges, armed forces employees and emergency services workers.

Judges considered university wage cuts to be in the best interest of the state, as the government must reduce its public deficit, as reported by Kathimerini.

The court believes that the constitution does not designate professor and university instructor salaries; the ruling will be brought before the Council of State's plenary.
