Independent Greeks (ANEL), the junior coalition partner, voted against a provision that will speed up the construction of a mosque in Votanikos, an area outside Athens, during a debate in the relevant parliamentary committees on Wednesday.

At any other time in the parliament's history, one joining and one expulsion in a political party in the constrain of one day would be considered a major paradox. But in the fluid political landscape of our times, it is a simple, almost everyday event.

Vasilis Kapernaros, the Independent Greeks former parliament spokesman and candidate for Athens Mayor supported by the party, has declared his independence from his former party in parliament. In his letter to parliament president, Evangelos Meimarakis, Kapernaros mentions nothing concerning the reasons which led him to this decision.
