Greece is third after Bulgaria and the US in terms of relative military expenditure in NATO as it spent 2.28% of its GDP in 2017, with the US spending 3.42 of its GDP.
The allied nations in NATO finally managed to find common grounds at the Brussels summit, but President Trump had criticised members of the alliance ahead of the meeting on Twitter, calling on them to increase defense spending, something which was achieved.
U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that NATO allies that do not meet the organization’s defense spending targets would be “dealt with,” and he singled out Germany as one country he said was not doing enough. He also made specific reference to the countries that contributed their share to the military alliance, like Greece and the Baltic states.
