The Greek Foreign ministry, in a statement on Wednesday, accused Turkey of making “an ill-advised attempt to falsify history,” in response to an announcement issued by the Turkish foreign ministry the previous day. At the same time, it called on the neighbouring country to come to terms with its history, so that events like the genocide of the Greeks of Pontus will never be repeated.

The Greek Foreign Ministry issued a response to the Turkish Foreign Ministry on the latter’s press release regarding the Pontic Genocide, calling it “an unfortunate attempt to falsify history”.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a highly provocative press release against Greek politicians who made statements related to the occasion of the anniversary of the internationally recognised Genocide of the Pontic Greeks on May 19, 1919 by the predecessor to the modern Turkish state.
