The Turkish Cypriot newspaper “Havadis” says the home of Titina Loizidou in Kyrenia will be converted into a tavern. “I am shocked,” says Ms Loizidou.
The news of the conversion of the house of Titina Loizidou in occupied Kyrenia into a tavern, was published by the Turkish Cypriot newspaper "Havadis", causing a shock to Ms Loizidou, because, as she said, the house belonged to her grandfather, a doctor in Kyrenia and the action “is disrespectful, not only to her family but also to the history of the city.”
According to the newspaper, the “owner” of the house is one Ishmael, while she, who was the first citizen that sued in the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and obtained compensation from Turkey, has not visited the home since 2003.
Speaking to the newspaper, the tenant of the house, Kemal Chiftzioglou, said that “ we did not rent the house from Titina Loizidou. We rented it from Mr. Ismail and will begin work immediately to turn it into a tavern. I do not know if Ms Loizidou has the right to return,” he added.
