Australian Greek Orthodox Church Robbers Arrested

The two criminals were a 34-year-old and a 29-year-old, whom were charged with theft and burglary by the Rosebud Crime Investigation Unit law enforcers. The Australian police force has not provided any additional details, according to Neos Kosmos.

Father Eleftherios Tatsis of the Mornington Peninsula church stated to Neos Kosmos, that the two robbers were not Greek and were caught after attempting to sell the stolen jewelry at a pawn shop. Unfortunately, a lot of the jewels have been already sold and melted. The two men are scheduled to appear at the Frankston Magistrates' Court.

The Greek Orthodox Church located in Red Hill, was vandalized by the thieves who broke the glass of a Virgin Mary icon. The felons stole hundreds of items of gold jewelry that was encased inside.

The Church received the gold through donations, beginning in 1984. Police have determined that the jewelry was worth more than $100,000 and included crosses, coins, bracelets, rings, bangles and chains.
