Greek-Australian Dies During Ironman Race

Greek-Australian Peter Farlecas tragically died while competing in an Ironman race, due to a reported heart attack.

During the triathlon, the father of three became unconscious in the sea, while participants attempted to save him. The 39-year-old IT consultant passed away during the Queensland's Ironman held on the Sunshine Coast, just north of Brisbane.

Athletes swam, ran and biked during the event. It is believed that Farlecas suffered a heart attack while his was swimming in the 1.9 kilometer segment. Over the last six months, he had trained for his first Ironman undertaking.
