Ioannina Receives $650,000 in Medical Equipment Organized by AHEPA & IOCC

AHEPA and the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) has recently shipped a container holding $650,000 dollars worth of medical equipment and supplies to Ioannina, Greece.

This marks the seventh medical package that AHEPA has secured for the nation. The Greek-American organization based in Washington, D.C., donated $20,000 to protect the package. It held medical tools including syringes, nebulizers, catheters, walkers and more.

$4.45 million dollars in total medical supplies have been received by Hellenic hospitals across the country by the collaborative efforts of AHEPA and IOCC. The AHEPA community has generated over $500,000 in humanitarian aid on their own for the citizens of Greece.

AHEPA Supreme President Philip T. Frangos stated of the act, "Austerity measures have had a devastating impact on public health spending...The ability of hospitals to purchase medical supplies and equipment has been hampered. The need is very real, and AHEPA, working in cooperation with the IOCC, is proud to be able to facilitate the shipment of a significant amount of aid to help address the medical supply shortage in Greece", according to AHEPA's website.

Frangos additionally commented, "We thank the community for helping to make this important shipment of medical supplies a reality through its contributions and donations. The spirit of philanthropy is alive and well and it must continue to flourish if we are to meet the dire needs the people of Greece are enduring during this most difficult time. We are proud of the Greek American community's action, and we encourage individuals and organizations to continue to donate to worthy causes that help Greece."
