Greek-Australian Politician Calls For Palestinian State Recognition
Greek-Australian Federal Member for Calwell Maria Vamvakinou has called for Australia to recognize the Palestinian state.
The politician tabled a motion in Parliament for its recognition during the 29th UN International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People and for 2014 as the UN Year of Solidarity with the Palestinian people. In her address, Vamvakinou declared that it is time for Australia to acknowledge the nation and vote in favor for Palestinian statehood at the United Nations.
The Greek-Australian delegate stated, "I want to remind the House it has been 67 years since the partition of Palestine and the occupation which continues until today. An occupation that is devastating, demoralising and damaging for all involved," as reported by Neos Kosmos.
