Athina Onassis in accident with horse
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Athina Onassis took a fall while riding her horse during the 54th CHI international horse show jumping tournament in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Onassis scion was reportedly uninjured from the fall, but unfortunately her horse was not so lucky. The white mare called Ad Camille Z-Zang was ‘severely injured’ after the tumble and had to be removed from the track using a crane.
Subsequently at a veterinary clinic it was determined that a recovery would not be possible for the 11-year old horse and she was put down.
The loss of her horse will undoubtedly be a major blow to Athina Onassis who has suffered a number of setbacks in her horse riding career.
In 2012 she sustained a spinal injury after a fall from a horse which put her out of competition for a year according to the Daily Mail.
The last time that Athina competed with Z-Zang was on the 7th of December at the Gucci Paris Masters in France.
She also competed with the horse in October at the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Jumping Finals in Barcelona where she placed a disappointing 57th.
The only living descendant of Aristotle Onassis, Athina is believed to be worth billions. She avoids the public eye, preferring a secluded life in Sao Paolo where she lives with her husband Álvaro de Miranda Neto, who also competes in show-jumping competitions.
