Byron Bay, Australia Revitalizes Regional Hellenism Through Education

Australia has recently established a new Greek School in the suburb of Byron Bay.

It is under the auspices of the St. Anna Gold Coast and Northern Rivers NSW Parish Community.  Its initial 2015 academic year instucted 15 local pupils between the ages of five to fifteen, according to Greek-Australian news portal Neos Kosmos.  The Byron Bay Greek School recently held a fundraising dinner event, which was attended by 250 supporters.

Father Romanos commended past Greek-Australians who preserved Hellenism in the region and new generations that attributed to its revitalization.

The Greek Orthodox priest described to Neos Kosmos, "There were many Greek families in the district in the last century, but they began to disperse into large cities during the 1980s." Byron Bay in Australia is home to both Greeks and Cypriots.
