Michalis Psaros awards the "Oxi Courage Award" to Vladimir Kara-Mursa

The distinguished international, diaspora enterpreneur Mr. Michalis Psaros, co-founder and co-managing partner of KPS Capital Partners LP, warmly presented Mr. Vladimir Kara-Murza with the Oxi Courage Award for 2018, at a ceremony held in Washington by the "OXI DAY Foundation", at the  "US Institute of Peace" think tank.

Vladimir Kara-Murza, a Russian activist for democracy, vice president of the Open Russia organization. He survived two poisoning attempts at and continues his efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and civil society in his homeland to date.

He was elected to the Coordinating Council of the Russian Opposition in 2012 and served as an alternate leader of the People's Freedom Party from 2015 to 2016.

He has created two documentaries, "They Chose Freedom" and "Nemtsov". He started his career as a journalist. Today, he is Senior Fellow at the Raoul Wallenberg Center for Human Rights, and recently accompanied the coffin at John McCain's funeral.

The "Oxi Courage Award," was also awarded Liu Xia, a widow of the human rights defender, Nobel Prize winner Liu Xiabo. Liu Xia was not present. She traveled to New York on September 28 when she received the prize, and at the ceremony in Washington, the video of the awarding was screened.

Liu Xia was released recently in July 2018, after 8 years of home detention, despite no charges against her. She is a Chinese painter, poet and photographer.

She met her husband Liu Xiaobo when they were members of Beijing's literary scene in the 1980s. They married in 2006 while he was imprisoned in China.

Liu Xia prefers to devote her life to solidarity. They have described her as the "most important link" of her husband to the "outside world". In this role, she also personally experiences pressure from the Chinese authorities for expressing her opinion publicly.
