Archbishop at St. Demetrios of Jamaica

By Eleftheria Lisa Mavroukas

His Eminence, Archbishop Demetrios, officiated the Archieratical Divine Liturgy at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Jamaica, NY on Sunday, March 2nd. The church was filled with parishioners on this "Cheesefare Sunday," the last Sunday before the Great Lent beginning on Clean Monday, or "Kathari Deftera," on March 3rd.

The expressions of the faithful parishioners present were full of spiritual pleasure, as they heard the beautiful chanting of this special liturgy, which most appropriately set the right tone for the beginning of Lent.

His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios, along with Archdeacon Panteleimon Papadopoulos and Deacon Eleftherios Constantine, led the liturgy, along with the participation of Presiding Priest Rev. Fr. Konstantinos Kalogridis. The church's Sunday School children had the honor of receiving Holy Communion from these leading holy members of the Archdioces themselves, who in a most warm and gentle way guided them through the holy sacrament.

Following the Archieratical Divine Liturgy, a community coffee hour took place in the main hall, which was filled with members of the St. Demetrios community, and the Parish Council, all of whom were honored to be in their presence.
