OXI DAY: The day of defiance, the day of NO!

At 3 a.m. on the morning of October 28th, 1940, Emanuele Grazzi, the Italian ambassador to Greece, delivered an ultimatum from Benito Mussolini to Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas. Il Duce demanded that Metaxas allow the Italian army free passage to enter and occupy strategic sites in Greece unopposed.

President in Thessaloniki for three-day festivities

President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos will be in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki for the next three days, October 26-28, to attend the triple festivities for Thessaloniki's patron saint, Agios Demetrios, the anniversary of the city's liberation and the October 28 national holiday.
