Ryanair Launches Brussels-Athens Route

On September 4th, the first Ryanair flight heading to Athens left Brussels Charleroi with 180 passengers on board.

Ryanair increased its European offering with the addition of its seventh route to Athens on 4 September, this time from Brussels Charleroi (CRL). The 2,078-kilometre sector to the capital of Greece will be operated daily by the ULCC’s 189-seat 737-800s.

No other airline serves this airport pair, but Aegean Airlines (twice-daily), Brussels Airlines (thrice-weekly) and Jetairfly (twice-weekly) provide indirect competition by flying from Brussels’ main airport to Athens.

Commenting on the route launch, Jean-Jacques Cloquet, CEO, Charleroi, said: “With this new line, a major European capital will be connected to our airport. Opportunities to fly to Greece from Charleroi are growing. We now offer nine destinations in Greece so there’s plenty to choose for anyone interested in history, culture or art.”
