Featured Naxos: Top sustainable destination for a sustainable holiday – First on the NZ Herald list

Greece and Naxos won international distinctions through the first official list announced by the NZ Herald regarding the world's proposed destinations for sustainable travel experiences in 2023.

The popular medium, with millions of readers in Australia and New Zealand, placed the largest island of the Cyclades at the top of the list, which, as it emphasizes, has a rich history, inexhaustible mythology, nature activities, ancient temples and impressive churches.

Next on the list are Kanazawa, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Botswana, Ancient Quarry Trails in Peru, Uzbekistan, Oman and Corvocado National Park in Costa Rica.

According to the NZ Herald, research shows that, after the pandemic and under the "shadow" of climate change, 89% of Australians intend to choose sustainable travel for their future holidays over other alternatives.

"Total air and ferry arrivals for 2022 in Naxos showed an impressive increase of 8.1% from May to September compared to 2019 and over 30% compared to 2021, while traffic moved extremely well before and after the tourist peak period. We are listening to the changes of the international travel industry and we are trying to contribute to the lengthening of the season and to expand our narrative with alternative forms of tourism and activities in nature", said the Deputy Mayor of Tourism of the Municipality of Naxos and Small Cyclades, Vangelis Katsaras, regarding the new distinction, which is part of the informational efforts of the EOT and the Municipality.
