AHI Participates In White House Discussion Concerning Greece

Washington, D.C.'s American Hellenic House (AHI) took part in a recent White House talk on Greece.

The discussion took place at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, with AHI Legal Counsel Nicholas G. Karambelas, Esq. acting as AHI's representative.

AHI President Nick Larigakis stated of the event, "We thank the Obama Administration for organizing this important and timely discussion on Greece's current situation."

Larigakis added, "By all accounts, it was a productive discussion. We look forward to participating at future meetings and contributing our expertise to help the administration and the Greek American community reach its mutual goals in support of our longstanding ally and friend, Greece."

Karambelas brought up bilateral investment treaty needs between the U.S. and Greece, while stating that the implemented tax treaty is outdated. The Greek-American legal expert also focused on the implementation of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC).

Three months ago, AHI President Larigakis reached out to OPIC and asked the firm to facilitate investment efforts to Greece during its difficult time. The AHI leader stated, "An OPIC Investment Mission to Greece could be the catalyst Greece needs and send a strong message of support from the United States."
