NYU's Langone Medical Center Reopens

NYU's Langone Medical Center has opened its doors for the first time, since Hurricane Sandy hit the region.

The hospital was severely flooded due to the Superstorm, causing 15 million gallons of water to infiltrate the medical unit. The enormous flood resulted in the entire evacuation of building, as its backup generators completely broke down.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo were both present at today's reopening ceremony. The two New York premiers applauded the Langone medical staff for the way they responded to the natural disaster. De Blasio commented, "There's so much strength, so much professionalism, so much talent in this room...I hope you all realize that what you did in the hours after Sandy was nothing short of a miracle".

Governor Cuomo added, "We owe a debt of gratitude to the entire NYU team that literally saved lives that night". The Medical Center incurred almost $150 million dollars in damage repairs. Its new emergency center is over three times the size of the original one and is named after Ronald Perelman, who donated $50 million dollars for its repair.

Mayor de Blasio declared, "This is a moment of rebirth for NYU Langone, but it symbolizes an on-going effort to bring back this city and state stronger than ever". Governor Cuomo rightfully stated: "New Yorkers have a history of experiencing tragedy, refusing to be defeated, reengineering, and reemerging better than before".
