Greek-Australian MP Souris Announces Retirement

New South Wales MP and Greek-Australian George Souris declared that he will not participate in state elections in 2015, following 27 working years in Parliament.

Over the span of his governmental career, Souris served as a MP for tourism, hospitality and racing. The Greek-Australian was succeeded by NSW Premier Mike Baird.

After his announcement, Souris described his displeasure, "I was in the ministry and I was dropped from the ministry. I don't want to sit on the back bench with the tag 'was dumped'", as reported by the Sydney Morning Herald.

Many Greek-Australian delegates have planned their retirement at the end of the year, including Northern Territory Labor politician Kon Vatskalis, Victorian MPs Nicholas Kotsiras and John Pandazopoulos.
