Global Sumud Flotilla: Foreign Ministry calls for restraint, urges Israel to withdraw its vessels from the area

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), in response to the Israeli operation against vessels of the Global Sumud Flotilla in international waters off the coast of Crete, calls for restraint and universal respect for international law, including the Law of the Sea and international humanitarian law.
In a statement, the MFA stressed that Greece, as a factor of stability in the region, guided by international law and for humanitarian reasons, has asked Israel to withdraw its vessels from the area and has offered its good offices by undertaking to receive the passengers on its territory and ensure their safe return to their countries.
Greek authorities are in consultation with Israeli authorities regarding the issue of safe disembarkation in Greece, the same statement noted. A delegation from the MFA is travelling to the point of arrival to coordinate the actions of all relevant Greek authorities and to cooperate with foreign consular authorities, which are being duly informed of their own responsibilities.
