Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on Wednesday evening, during a press briefing on the sidelines of the Cairo-sponsored World Youth Forum in Sharm el-Sheikh resort, said his government remains committed to a bilateral agreement with Greece regarding the delimitation of waters in the east Mediterranean.
Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Palmer has expressed Washington's deep concern over Turkey's actions in the Eastern Mediterranean, stressing that US diplomacy has made its position very clear in Ankara. He explained that Turkey's drilling activities, combined with the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Tripoli government, are counterproductive and do not contribute to the stability and security of the Eastern Mediterranean.
The US Geological Survey estimates there to be 122 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas reserves in the Mediterranean’s Leviathan Basin, and the countries in the region are on a quest to acquire what they consider their rightful share.
