Cypriot Army Reform Bill Amended

The Cypriot Cabinet approved a bill that has amended National Guard mandates, as a portion of continuing endeavors to revamp the army.

In the bill, subjects who have a non-Cypriot father and a Cypriot mother, and were birthed between August 16th,1960 to June 11th, 1999, can serve a smaller time period. Draftees who have a Cypriot father and were born within the same time period, must serve the full term's entire 24 months.

The amendments offer additional military leave for recruits who are serving in military bases outside of their hometowns and for those who want to study abroad. Cyprus currently ranks as having the second longest mandatory military term worldwide, after Israel.
