Old Halkida bridge closed for repairs

The old tilt bridge connecting Halkida, on Evia with mainland Greece, spanning the Euripus Strait, due to maintenance, as announced by the Port Authority.
According to a statement issued, a footbridge has placed for the convenience of citizens, for the use of pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge is of solid construction and not open for the passage of vessels.
The limit of safe crossing under the bridge varies with the tide and those users with small vessels wishing to pass underneath should be informed by the competent authorities of the port authority. Local authorities advise against crossing under the bridge for reasons fo safety reasons due to the work being performed.
However, according to local media, residents of Halkida faced problems commuting during the first day of the measure.
