Macedonian Struggle Celebrated in Athens

The memory of the fallen and the victims of the Macedonian struggle was celebrated today in ceremonies in Athens.
The Chief of the Joint General Staff, general Michael Kostarakos represented the armed forces at the memorial service at the Athens cathedral (Metropolis), the laying of wreaths at the Unknown Soldier, and the political memorial held at the Old Parliament building.
The main day of celebrations is considered 13 October, as on that day 150 Turkish gendarmes surrounded artillery lieutenant Pavlos Melas, after a tip-off from Bulgarian adversary Mitros Vlahos. Melas waged a long battle, but was eventually killed.
