Deposit outflows accelerate in January
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The outflow of deposits by Greek depositors continued at an accelerated pace in January, as they withdrew almost € 13 billion from their bank accounts, as Dow Jones Newswires relates citing data from the European Central Bank. In December outflows had reached 5 billion euros approximately, says the agency. The outflows in conjunction with the ECB's decision to stop accepting Greek bonds in monetary policy operations have led Greek banks increasingly to rely on the emergency liquidity assistance (ELA), says the agency.
