Athens Classic Marathon

Kenyan runner Hillary Yego, 26, was the first to cross the finish line at the 31st Athens Classic Marathon on Sunday, completing the race in 2 hours, 13 minutes and 59 seconds.
The race which spanned the distance from the battlefield of Marathon to the old Olympic stadium, known as the Kallimarmaro, saw second and third place claimed by Kenyans Dickson Kimeli (2.14.40) and David Rutoh (2.14.47), respectively.
The first Greek athlete to finish the classic Marathon race this year is Christoforos Meroussis, with 2.24.09. Among women runners, Kenyan Nancy Joan Rotich came first (2.41.38), and Greek Magda Gazea second (2.46.03).
About 9,000 people participated in the classic 42km race.
