- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The “Educational Community and Public Awareness Campaign on the Marine Environment, Shipping and Sciences” moves on to the next stop, the city of Corinth, where relevant activities will take place from 23 October to 5 November 2015.
The Campaign is carried out in 14 Greek towns and cities, between 2014 and 2017, with the support of Lloyd’s Register Foundation (LRF). Besides raising awareness among the school and the wider community on the themes of the Campaign, the aim of this initiative is also to inspire children in Greece to learn more about science, engineering and technology in the service of humanity and the environment, and give them access to information and facilities that they otherwise may not have had.
Under the auspices of the Municipality of Corinth, the Campaign’s environmental Exhibition will be hosted at the foyer of the Municipal Theatre of Corinth. The inauguration will take place on Friday 23 October, at 12:00, in the theatre’s main hall and will include brief presentations on environmental activities carried out by children-members of the “HELMEPA Junior” program from the Primary School of Lechaio and by volunteer’s team “Loutraki Divers”.
In the framework of the Campaign, HELMEPAin cooperation with the Directorates of Primary and Secondary Education of Corinth, will transport approximately 1,000 primary and high school pupils from both within the city and the broader area, to visit the Exhibition. Transportation costs will be covered by the Campaign. The Exhibition will be visited by schools daily from 9am to 1pm and then on it will remain open to the public until 4pm.
Other environmental activities are also being scheduled with the participation of schoolchildren and local stakeholders, such as beach and underwater cleanups, educational visits and conduct of a survey on environmental awareness.
