General strike today

The General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) and the Greek Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY) will hold a strike today,February 4 protesting against the government’s planned social security reforms.
At 11 this morning the two largest umbrella unions, GSEE and ADEDY have called for a rally on Klafthmonos square. Left wing affiliated union PAME has called for a rally at 10.30 on Omonia square.
Disruptions in public transport means. Trolleys, the electric railway, the suburban railway and taxis will not run at all today, buses will run from 9 am to 9 pm, the Metro and the tram will operate from 10 am to 4 pm. Public hospital and private sector doctors as well as paramedics will go on strike.
Teachers, scientists, retailers, accountants, truck drivers, pharmacists, lawyers, truck drivers, engineers, public utilities, public sector, insurance funds and local authorities employees as well as gas stations owners also on strike.
Athens Concert hall employees participate on this strike, therefore the two concerts planned to take place tonight at the Megaron have been cancelled.
Farmers continue to block national highways, however they will facilitate all those who want to participate in rallies throughout the country.
Moreover, the Hellenic Confederation of Professionals, Craftsmen & Merchants (GSEVEE) and the National Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (ESEE) will also participate in Thursday’s strike.
The Greek Seamen’s Federation (PNO) decided to participate in the general strike with a 48-hour strike starting from 06:00 on Thursday until 06:00 on Saturday.
