Tension on Chios over refugees
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Tension prevailed in the afternoon on the island of Chios. The island has been divided in two, over the refugee issue.
With citizens participating in parallel rallies, asking on the hand for the removal of refugees from Chios, and on the other for solidarity, they caused incidents while jeering, while some people invaded city hall, where a city council meeting was in process, which was interrupted several times by verbal attacks, and even by yoghurt throwing.
Outside the hall citizens "lined up" on two different sides. According to local newspaper "Politis", during clashes between the citizens there were at least two injuries, a foreign media cameraman and a Chios resident solidarity group member.
