The Shipping Ministry will convene on Wednesday in an effort to implement a new national policy on islands and draft a common, comprehensive proposal with other southern European countries to be presented at the EU summit during the Maltese presidency.
The meeting will take place at noon at the initiative of Shipping Minister Panagiotis Kouroumblis and Deputy Shipping Minister Nektarios Santorinios with the participation of islands' regional governors.
Kouroumblis has already announced the cooperation of the ministry with the regions of the Greek islands as well as the countries of southern Europe adding that Europe seems to realize that territorial cohesion is an obligation to ensure that people in the islands feel that they are not second-class citizens, feel that they are citizens of Greece and Europe, that they are citizens of Spain and Europe, namely have actual territorial cohesion."
