Third Southern EU Countries’ Summit in Madrid

The main issues on the Summit agenda, which will also be included in its Declaration, are the future of the EU, immigration-refugees, security, Brexit and combat of terrorism, in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in the EU and the broader region, the most recent being those in Stockholm, Saint Petersburg and Egypt.

According to government sources, Greek PM Alexis Tsipras will take the initiative, given the dramatic situation in Syria, so that southern EU countries ask the EU to take on a greater role in the Syria issue. The Southern EU Countries’ Summit was first convened last September in Athens, at the initiative of PM Tsipras. Government sources appear satisfied with the development of this initiative. The fourth Summit is already scheduled to be held in Cyprus.
