Greek Foreign Affairs Ministry's reactions to Turkey-Libya fresh maritime boundaries accord
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
The Greek Foreign Affairs Ministry's spokesman Alexandros Gennimatas on Thursday said that no agreement should so blatantly violate International Maritime Law and the sovereign rights of affected countries, in response to Turkey and Libya signing a deal on maritime boundaries in the Mediterranean Sea on Thursday but who have not yet provided more details as to how this defines or affects the two countries' waters.
Gennimatas stressed that such an accord cannot possibly bring about legal actions or results and is not aligned with the principle of good neighborly relations.
Diplomatic sources said that the Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias called the Turkish ambassador in Athens requiring explanations and also spoke on the phone with his Cypriot and Egyptian counterparts Nikos Christodoulides and Sameh Hassan Shoukry.
Meanwhile, the Permanent Representation of Greece to the E.U. has received instructions to immediately consult the European Commission as well as the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the EU Commission Federica Mogherini, about this accord.
