This is how Greece ends Turkish drones

Featured This is how Greece ends Turkish drones

Turkish drones are moving provocatively over the Aegean, but Greece’s response is already on the way – and this time it comes from the cutting edge of Greek technology.

A state-of-the-art, domestically developed anti-drone system, designed to detect, intercept and ultimately neutralize any threat from the air, is now one step closer to its operational integration.

The system has been developed by the Institute of Informatics and Telematics of CERTH (National Center for Research and Technological Development) and is based on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, deep learning, data fusion from multiple sensors (radar, thermal and optical cameras, microphones, radio frequency detectors) and advanced target tracking filters.

The platform has already been internationally recognized, winning 1st place in the NATO Data Challenge (ICMCIS 2021), thanks to its innovative methodology for tracking unauthorized aircraft, using Artificial Intelligence algorithms that combine and compare data from multiple sources in real time.

When will it be ready and to what extent?

The technological basis of the system has been completed and final tests are currently being carried out in real operational conditions. According to sources from the research team, the system is expected to be fully operational within 2025, while preparatory procedures for its pilot installation in geographically critical locations in the Aegean have already begun.

The initial development foresees the installation of 5 to 7 anti-drone stations at strategic points in island and continental areas, with the possibility of future expansion to a national scope and use by Security Forces, airports and high-value infrastructure.

At the same time, consultations are underway with private defense industries for the commercial exploitation of the technology, which will also allow its export to countries facing similar threats.

Greece is thus moving from the waiting phase to the active defense phase, sending a clear message: Turkish violations via UAVs will no longer go unanswered – and soon, they will not even be possible.
