Archaeological sites extending hours

Thirty three archaeological sites and museums will remain open from 8am to 8pm, during the summer, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras announced on Tuesday.
The announcement took place after a meeting with culture minister Panos Panagiotopoulos with the participation of top officials from his ministry and the directors responsible for the 33 sites.
“I want to announce, today, an initiative that for me was a personal wager since the time I was with you at the ministry, and I want to thank the minister for continuing this initiative. I am speaking of something that should have been done decades ago. We succeeded, and I use this verb because it took place at times when the economy is traveling along rocky paths, in having our most significant museums open throughout the summer period from 8 in the morning to 8 at night, seven days a week,” stated the Premier.
The 33 museums and archeological sites garner 95% of the visitors visiting such venues , as well as getting 95% of proceeds, during the period between April and 31 October, the peak tourist season.
The PM also noted that all those holding unemployment cards will be able to visit the sites and museums free of charge.
