First Epitaphios in Smyrna after 92 years

For the first time after the destruction of Smyrna (present day Izmir), 92 years ago, Greeks participated in a litany of the Epitaphios through the streets of the once capital of Ionian Hellenism.
The Epitaphios service and litany was attended by a large congregation at the Roman Catholic Church of Saint John that was offered for the service to Orthodox Christians. The service was conducted by archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne Kyrillos Sykis.
After the service the funerary bier of Christ, the epitaphios was taken in process through the streets of Smyrna.
