Foreign Press Distributors Shuts Down
- Written by E.Tsiliopoulos
Circulation of foreign press in Greece has stopped amid bankruptcy of the distributor, leaving news agents selling foreign titles to deal with the shortage.
The Greek Distribution Agency for Foreign Press, the principal distributor of foreign press in Greece for many years, announced the suspension of its operation and asked the press stores owned by the company to proceed with liquidation of their assets.
It is estimated that about 4,000 foreign magazines and 20 foreign newspapers circulate in Greece. Many professionals in the press claim that the summer season is “lost” and argue that several magazines will not come back to Greek shelves before September.
Meanwhile, it is rumored that a businessman from Cyprus has expressed an interest in the distribution of foreign press in Greece.
