The first case of the monkeypox virus has been detected in Greece, according to initial tests, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said in a statement late on Wednesday.
The patient, who had recently traveled to Portugal, is in a stable condition in hospital, according to NHS-EODY.
Samples have been sent to the Laboratory of Microbiology of the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) to confirm that the genomes belong to the monkeypox virus.
