Mitsotakis: We honored the 250th anniversary of American Independence at Maximos Mansion - Our relations are based on value-based bonds

“At the seat of the Presidency of the Greek government, at the Maximos Mansion, we commemorated the 250th anniversary of American Independence,” the prime minister said in a post.
“A historic anniversary that reminds us of the timeless power of the ideas of liberal democracy,” stressed Kyriakos Mitsotakis about the dinner he hosted for US Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle for the 250th anniversary of American independence.
“The principles of Jefferson and John Adams spoke with the vision of Rigas Feraios and Adamantios Korais.”
“However, it also refers to the common historical path of Greece and the United States. A path that goes beyond diplomatic ties and spans two and a half centuries of shared values and historical experiences, as I emphasized in my speech to a joint session of Congress in May 2022,” continued Mr. Mitsotakis.
And he pointed out: "The ideas that inspired the Founding Fathers of American Independence had their roots in ancient Greek thought; and the example of American democracy in turn inspired the pioneers of the Struggle for Greek Independence who saw in the American experience a living proof that freedom can be conquered when accompanied by faith, unity and determination.
The principles of Thomas Jefferson, John Adams and the other founders of American democracy spoke to the vision of Rigas Feraios, Adamantios Korais and the fighters of 1821 for democracy and national independence. And when the Greeks rose up for their freedom, American society stood with emotion and admiration at their side, expressing one of the first waves of philhellenism in the modern world.
This historic conversation between the two democracies continues to this day. Greek-American relations are at the highest level ever. The two countries walk together through an increasingly strong strategic relationship and a shared commitment to freedom, democracy and international and regional stability. And through the stable and valuable cooperation in multilateral formats in which they participate together. Always with a valuable bridge, the Greek diaspora in America, which makes the relationship between the two peoples unique.”
The Prime Minister added: “The history of the last 250 years teaches us that the relationships that stand the test of time are those based on solid value bonds and not simply on circumstances.
It took many years for everyone in Greece to understand the strategic depth of this relationship, which has enjoyed bipartisan support in the United States for decades.
It is now an established commonplace that Greek-American relations transcend governments and electoral cycles. Our shared values are also the greatest guarantee that our strategic cooperation will continue to deepen for the benefit of both peoples.”
