ELSTAT Workers File Case Against Chief Georgiou

Hellenic Statistical Authority workers have filed a case against the agency's service chief Andreas Georgiou, through the Council of State.

The filer's believe that Georgiou instructed unconstitutional requirements, when forcing them to sign confidentiality agreements regarding statistical information, that forbid them to law enforcement officials. As mandated by the agreement, ELSTAT workers could be fined from 10,000 to 200,000 euros if failing to comply.

Georgiou began his ELSTAT post in August 2010. He currently faces criminal charges after a former worker blamed him of conspiring with Eurostat to inflate the nation's deficit in 2009, to legitimize its initial monetary bailout.
